Domaine de Chalain is a long-time Canvas favourite. This is a large and lively site, that is the ideal location for an active family holiday, beautifully set beside a lake of shimmering water with a backdrop of steep hills.

There is a superb pool complex, with outdoor and indoor pools, waterslides (6yrs+ only), waterfalls, a sauna, rapids and a jacuzzi. There is also an excellent range of sporting facilities, complemented by a first-rate animation programme in high season. Lakeside, you will find all manner of watersports – hire a pedalo or canoe, or enjoy a cooling swim, before soaking up the sun on the shore. Keen fishermen can indulge in a spot of lake fishing from the banks of the adjacent lake.

From the north or south on the A39:
Leave the autoroute at junction 8 for Lons-le-Saunier (N78), and head in the direction of Geneva/Pontarlier.
Pass the railway station on the right hand side, and continue for about 2km (1.2 miles).
Turn right at the roundabout and go under the railway bridge.
Turn left at the next roundabout in the direction of Champagnole on the D471. Climb the hill out of Lons-le-Saunier and after 7km (4.2 miles), take a right turning onto the D39, direction Vevy, Lac de Chalain and Cascades du Herisson. Follow this road until you join the D27 just before Doucier village where you should turn right.
Follow the road to the village centre and turn left opposite the pharmacy. Camping Domaine de Chalain is 2km (1.2 miles) down this road.

 

Local Area

Domaine de Chalain is situated on the southern banks of Lac de Chalain, a two-mile drive from the village of Doucier, with its small selection of bars and restaurants. Fifteen miles away is the busy town of Lons-le-Saunier, once a Roman Salt town, where you will find a good range of amenities. The site has direct access to a lakeside beach and a good range of watersports.

The Grottes de Moidons are caves with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites, highlighted by a fantastic sound and light show. Take a 15 mile sightseeing trip on the Ste Claude railway from Morez (23mls). The train passes over numerous viaducts and through breathtaking scenery before arriving in Morbier.
